Deep River Celebrates 75 Years of Independence.

Before the present day Kirtland Commons, three apartment buildings, known as Brooklawn Apartments, stood at the corner encompassing Spring Street and Main Street. A disastrous fire on a frigid winter night in 1967 left 15 adults and 23 children without a home. A faulty boiler was blamed. Fire departments from Deep River, Chester and Essex responded as many escaped down a 40 ft. ladder assisted by the fire departments. Due to safety violations, the buildings were razed and a state of the art, senior complex, Kirtland Commons, was built in its place.

Please celebrate Deep River Day on Saturday, 9/17/2022 and watch as residents from Kirtland Commons march in the parade at 3:00pm.
