Deep River’s Affordable Housing Plan Notice of Informational Session

In advance of an upcoming May 17th informational session, the Town of Deep River, together with Deep River’s Affordable Housing Working Group, is providing a draft of its inaugural Affordable Housing Plan (AHP).  Under a state mandate (CGS Section 8-30j), every Connecticut municipality must prepare and adopt an affordable housing plan by June 1, 2022.

On Tuesday, May 17th, at 7:00 pm, the Town will host a virtual community meeting to review and discuss this draft plan.  Deep River residents are encouraged to attend the online meeting and to add their voice to this important discussion prior to presenting the Plan to the Board of Selectmen for their adoption.

The following is provided as additional background information:

The Lower Connecticut River Valley Council of Governments (RiverCOG) has developed a comprehensive regional affordable housing plan and is assisting Deep River and other area towns in developing their AHPs.  In May 2021, RiverCOG kicked off this project and has since hosted a series of virtual workshops as the project progressed.  To view these workshops or presentations, go to the RiverCOG website at:  https://www.rivercog.org/projects/rhp/

The Town subsequently convened an Affordable Housing Working Group to work with RiverCOG to provide recommendations and approaches for meeting current and future housing needs for Deep River.  This working group met several times over the past few months to educate themselves on proposed strategies and to make recommendations for Deep River’s AHP.
